I have been to Orchard Central several times and they’ve never failed to amaze me with their expanding F&B outlets.
Read on to find out about my recent food experience with Orchard Central!
A common #firstworldproblem that my friends and I usually encounter whenever we are in town.
“What to eat for lunch/dinner ah?”
And more often than not, we found ourselves in Orchard Central because of their wide range of F&B outlets from fastfood (like Quiznos Sub & Everything with fries), reputable food chain (like Dean & DeLuca) to my personal favourite restaurants (BWB | burger VS wings + bar & Nantsuttei). Orchard Central eventually became my favourite dining mall when it comes to eating in town. On my recent visit, I was thrilled to discover 3 additional food outlets at Basement 2.
1. YILI PAOPAO ICE (以利泡泡冰)
It was started by Mr. Chang (founder of Yili) who originated from 宜蘭. He noticed that certain customers habitually mixed the shaved ice with toppings before eating. He then decided to ‘pre-blend’ the ice for the customers and started experimenting with different blending techniques and that’s how Pao Pao Ice was created. Instead of the usual shaved ice with toppings or made those that are made with artificial additives, YiLI Pao Pao Ice uses real fruits to create that rich flavor which is good enough to eat it on its own sans toppings. Today, YiLi Pao Pao Ice with 60 years of history, boosts several shops in Taiwan and has became one of the biggest distributors of shaved ice to many cafes and F&B outlets in Taipei. It is one of the most popular shaved ice in Shilin Night Market now and this stall is their first venture overseas. And we’re lucky they chose our tiny red dot!
Look at the heart shape disposable spoon!
The young man behind this shaved ice is actually one of the bosses behind the Singapore branch of YiLi Pao Pao Ice. This Boba Milk & Egg Pao Pao Special ($5.60 each) is one of the more popular flavours in Taiwan.
This is my favourite combination out of all: Strawberry + Passionfruit. Mixed any 2 flavours at only $4.95. You may choose to add toppings (price range from $0.45 to $0.65) to compliment the ice too. Oh and did I mention there is Taro Pao Pao Ice too? Taro desserts are usually heavy on the palate but definitely not for theirs! The light and subtle flavor is perfect for a post-heavy-meal dessert excuse :p #gluttonme #fatdieme #musthavedessertsaftereverymeal
Some behind the scenes of every instagrammer… Perpetually looking for nice walls and tables, oops!
On a random note, if you like peanut flavor, please try their Peanut & Oreos Pao Pao Ice! I like that it is big on flavor but light on the palate. It is like eating peanut butter without feeling the guilt :p If you like peanut flavor but not a fan of the intense kind, you can opt for Peanut & Kidney Beans flavour instead. Enjoy!

2. Green Rabbit – Crepe & Salad Gastrobar
Started at the beginning of this year, this casual quick-serve eatery focuses on churning out unpretentious quality food with freshness and affordability in mind. They work closely with their suppliers to ensure that only the best go into every bowl of salad or cone of crepe. This crepe and salad bar is probably the only one in Singapore with the concept of serving crepes and salads. This stems from the owners’ belief that every health-conscious individual’s diet plan should encompass cheat days where they are free to indulge in sinful pleasures. This is probably how Roy and his wife behind the crepe and salad bar, created “Mona Laksa” salad and “Tom Yummy” salad among the other popular classics. Green Rabbit is located just beside YiLi Pao Pao Ice! The ingredients for both Mona Laksa ($9.90) and Tom Yummy ($9.90) are pretty much the same aside from their specialty salad dressing. Both are really satisfying to the tummy. Now they are going to be my cheat meals on my non-cheat days. (Pun intended) I preferred the Thai Tom Yum dressing compared to the Creamy Laksa dressing. If you are adventurous, you can opt for other interesting dressings like Chili Crabby, Kimchi and Blue Cheese! You can also convert your salad into a wrap at an additional of $0.90. If only I worked within walking distance from Orchard Central, this will definitely be one of places I visit for lunch frequently. Besides salad, Green Rabbit also sell a wider range of crepes that includes both savory and sweet. We managed to try their signature crepe, Strawberry Shortcake ($6.50). I am not a huge fan of crepes and I would have prefer my crepe to be crispy like those hand-held version instead. Nevertheless, my friends really enjoyed their Strawberry Shortcake ($6.50) which comprises of strawberries, shortcake, strawberry sauce, fresh cream and almond flakes.

3. I WANNA
The inspiration behind the name I WANNA stems from a thought that comes with action to indulge. They have really unique flavors like Almond Lavender, French Rose, Milk Tea and sugar gazed donut cupcakes and be sure to try their signature Red Velvet and Banana Choc cupcake with savoury and not too sweet cream cheese frosting (I like)! Located beside YiLi Pao Pao Ice and opposite of Medz. A box of 4 mini cupcakes at $5.50. Great for ladies who like to try a variety yet can’t eat much. Hee

Aside from the 3 F&B outlets from basement 2, I would also like to share Tanuki Raw’s new lunch menu that I am crazy about recently. Shall let the pictures do most of the talking!
The melted mozzarella in this Taco Fish ($15) is the bomb. This dish is like having fish & chips and tacos all in one.
3 out of the 6 dons that Tanuki offers during lunch.
From top left clockwise: Chirashi Don ($17.80), Truffle Yakiniku Don ($14.80) and Salmon Don ($12.80).
Their Truffle Yakiniku Don is my favourite of them all. Just imagine the explosion of flavours in your mouth – the yolk of the onsen egg running all over the fatty black angus short ribs that was pan seared with truffle soy sauce. I think you got it.
Calling all salmon lovers to try their Salmon Don which consists of 2 different methods of preparing the salmon – Aburi and Salmon Sashimi. How can I say no when they put lightly seared aburi, fresh salmon sashimi and salmon sashimi marinated with spicy mayo all in 1 don?
I also noticed something special about their dons. Instead of serving it with plain pearl rice, Tanuki actually serves their dons with furikake seasoned rice which added extra flavor.
This is how you combine 2 of my favourites (cheeseburger and sushi) together, the American Roll ($10).
One of Tanuki’s most popular roll is this Rockstar Roll ($10) that comprises of seared salmon with mozzarella and mentaiko sauce. I thought Tanuki’s lunch menu is value for money and pocket friendly. Shall be back to try the rest of their creations!
